We're Supporting Bark For Life in Media, PA 2015!

Our friends at Bark for Life do a great job each year raising money for the fight against cancer. One Lap For Dogs is going to lend them a hand (or a paw if you will) by collecting donations one bone at a time! Hit the Donate Now button on the left to get your bone and help support a great cause. Our goal is to raise $2000 for them, but we need your help!

If you'd rather use the old postal service, here is the form!

Hurry, we're on the race track August 8th & 9th and would like your pet to ride along with us!

August 2014: We're back, running 24hrs of LeMons

Check out the new race car, before and after! Amazing what you can do with a couple of weekends, a can of paint and a roller. And yes, that is the grate from a grill that now makes up our grill! More to come.

Lincoln Highway Tour June 21-July 4, 2013
Here is the latest addition to the OneLapForDogs family, and unfortunately, it aint RED! That's OK though, she has already won two trophies at the car show this weekend.

Chump 25:25:25 hour race is over! And we are well done!
Our biggest event of the year started well, but within 3 hours, we were in the pits to correct some issues caused by more loose bolts! Very Frustrating. Then 8 hours later, the event ended with us dumping quarts of oil all over the track and an engine compartment fire caused by a loose oil filter. Big thanks to Kevin and John for getting our car through as much as they could. Great effort from you both. Dave, sorry you had to be behind the wheel when it went terminal! You are the HAMMER! Thanks to Jen for keeping our team together and moving forward. Watch for details and opportunities to join us in 2013!

Chump 6.5 hour race done! Unfortunately the other cars ran for 8 hours
We were running great, than with only 2 hours left we started overheating....finally, 30 minutes later without warning, kablammoooo, smoke everywhere and Porsche came in on the wrecker! We ended up 17th of 30+ cars entered. Pretty good considering we missed over 90 minutes of track time.

One Lap for Dogs race team seeks competent porsche mechanic who wants to assist us in rebuilding the engine of our race car. Experience required, rates must be reasonable. email brian@onelapfordogs.com

Finish at NJMP

20th out of 102 cars entered. Great Job Rookie Team!
We ran the 24 Hours of Lemons race at NJMP April 14-15 and placed in the top 20! Our car did well and except for a little brain fade from a couple of us, we managed to keep the car together and on track! Above is a picture of us crossing the finish line!

Frantic work on Porsche 944, 14 days until the race!!
Pictures above show the work at hand. New Ram Air system courtesy of my wife's clothes dryer vent tube. New roof panel to cover sunroof, thanks to the furnace ducting material I had leftover at the office, and Snoopy, thanks to our Pit Crew Leader Cassidy for her painting abilities!

Porsche 944 Lemon

Think Penske switching from Dodge to Ford is news?
One Lap for Dogs is switching from Pontiac to Porsche!

After some failings in the roll cage department, we've had to work out a "Plan B" and will be preparing a Porsche 944 for 24 Hours of Lemons. Harry and I pick up the car on Saturday and will start the process of getting the car up to OneLapForDogs specifications! Not a great thing after so much time and money into the Fiero, but we are happy to still be in the event!

Interior is history, race seat is in and we are ready for a roll cage!
As you can see, there isn't much left of the Fiero interior. Just a instrument cluster and ventilation control box. As we dismantled the interior it seemed that leaving some ventilation to help clear the windscreen or help warm the driver might be a good idea. Soon we'll build a center console to hold the additional gauges, switches and various other driver goodies. Still need to trim up some loose wires!

Our contributions continue to come in. Special thanks to the folks at PastPerfect Museum Software (www.museumsoftware.com) for their very generous $100 donation. Our total is still under $1000 so far for the year so please continue to pass the word about our project.

We have submitted entries for 24 Hours of LeMons and ChumpCar events. More news to follow!

3rd place overall at Pumpkin Run 2011
Jen and Brian took the $500 Fiero to Millsboro, DE to compete in the 2011 Pumpkin Run, a road rally covering 400 miles through some of the more rural places on the DelMarVA peninsula. The Fiero performed well and we finished with two aces and final score of just 31 seconds for the event. We collected about $150 in donations making it a good solid weekend for both CPL and our motorsports agenda. We've done the road rally, now to turn this thing into a real "Crap-Can" Racer. Let the parts begin to come out!

Faulkner's Cruise and Open House at Canine Partners for Life
The Fiero has passed inspection and is now making it's rounds! Thanks to our contributors at Faulkner's on Friday Sep 9th and to everyone who came out and visited with us at Canine Partner's Open House. Stay tuned to see where we are gonna be next!

Big day:

Two weeks later...August 16, 2011

The "Fright" has both eyes open (permanently now.) The somewhat working but totally loose fog/driving lights have been removed along with the front license plate holder. She also had a brake fluid flush, oil changed, some underside cleanup and a "working" set of wheels that will be used for all-season tires for the races. I think we have shed about 4-5 pounds so far....much more needed!

Fiero with Lights up!

Here we go again! August 1st marks the first day of our 2012 campaign to run two 24 hour endurance races and a Road Rally. Stay Tuned, more coming soon!

We've got the car for just $500 and we've got some extra parts to sell! Click for a sneak peek!

Last Pictures! Here is what the car looks like just before we start removing the stickers.

Race is Done! 4th in class, 45th overall, top finished with Dog Bones all over the car!

As we close in on 5270 miles on our way home tonight, we reflect on a fantabulous time and some statistical facts.

1) We used 278 Gallons of gasoline for a total cost of $1174
2) We spent every night in a hotel for at least 3 hours with an average night of 6 hours.
3) We covered 5270 miles in 224 hours for an average speed of 24.4 MPH
4) Our Top Speed of the event was at Daytona, 135+MPH
5) The most we paid for a gallon of gas was $8.00 at Daytona
6) The least we [paid per gallon was $3.83 somewhere
7) We added 3 quarts of oil to our engine
8) We raised nearly $4000 for Canine Partners for Life! Thanks everyone!
9) Our best finish was in the Autocross at Grissom, 18th overall.
10) Of the 75 cars that started the event, only 62 participated in the final event.

Dry Skid Pad

Thanks Tim for the generous donation and I am very sad that we wont see you in 2012. Perhaps Germany should have a stop or two in 2012's One Lap.

Dry Skid Pad went well. We finished that event 31st by pulling 0.95g's. It is going to take some modifications to get a better score, only 347 more days until One Lap, better get started.

Autobahn

A fantastic facility, unfortunately I spent a little time manicuring the lawn on North track and then spinning up mud on the South track. Hope they don't sent me a bill! Unfortunately my quest to take away 3rd place came to a grinding halt as Joe and that Miata are unstoppable! Fantastic run Joe, well done....next year we'll have to do it again.

Barber Motorsports Park

OMG, this is more like a national park than a race course. We were advised to take it easy and stay on track....not much chance of that, I am trying to catch up with third place in my class. I gotta beat him in every event from here forward to catch him in points. It isn't likely, but as long as I run well, there is still a chance. Both runs today went well. Stayed on track and finished 2nd and 3rd in class today. I'm still alive in the points. Tonight we push for nearly 700 miles to get to Autobahn in Joliet, IL.

One of the Vipers went off track today and did some pretty good damage to the front end. They are headed to a fabrication shop to try and get it back on the road. Good luck guys!

Circuit Grand Bayou

Gotta be one of the coolest little tracks in the country. Leave your expectations behind, dump your stuff out of the car on to the very well used parking lot and get in line to go out. This facility is a combination of a drag strip and a road course. the road course uses about 2/3s of the drag strip for the longest straight, then turn one which is fast and fun. Then a bunch of slower stuff until you come out of a 270 degree turn and back on to that drag strip. Fun! The RX-8 was a good car to have.

Carolina, then Daytona

It has been quite a while since we have sent out an update and I have to tell you that is mostly because of the grueling nature of this event. Our transits seem to be longer than normal and with late afternoon/evening events scheduled right before transit, the nights are getting very very long. Add to that the heat of South Carolina and Florida and this year's One Lap is shaping up to be a tough one.

For sure, the cars are feeling it. This afternoon's Daytona session had 15 fewer cars competing in it than the first event at Tire Rack. We have seen cars blow up, catch file, spin out and today, a corvette spun and clipped a tire wall. Luckily no one was injured and the car could continue.

The One Lap For Dogs Mazda RX8 is running like a champ though! We have had to put in 2 quarts of oil so far, and I accidentally broke a plastic piece on the door, but other than that (knock on wood) it has performed well above the capability of its driver!

Today, I knocked off one of my bucket list items as I took 8 hot laps on Daytona's road course. It was a complete blast! This evening we competed on the drag strip. Thanks to Jimmy and Linda for stopping by and cheering me on! Sorry about the red light in the 3rd bracket....wish I could have made it one round further.

Jen driving now as we make our way to Baton Rouge, LA. It is 600 miles from where we left the drag strip at 8:30. Yeah, that means a very long night tonight. Currently we sit in 47th place overall, 4th in class and trying hard to close the gap. More later!

One the Road, Just Finished Summit Point

It is easy to see now. Sure, she looked like a tame mother of an 11 year old, patiently keeping her daughter entertained in the backseat while we traveled 1300 miles in about 72 hours. Then, today, she got behind the wheel to drive the transit to Carolina Motorsports park. Jen is all business, pounding out the miles like nobody's business. If I did as well on the track, we'd be way ahead of our current 43rd place.

We had a great Autocross score at Grissom and finished 18th (take that Harry!) From there, we went to Summit point, a track I had never run before and was a little nervous about as I don't think I ever made 3 clean laps on the iracing simulator. I didn't wreck in the morning session, but I was slow. I think I finished in 56th place or something embarrassing like that. The rain came right before the afternoon session, but I was determined to do better. I shaved another 7 seconds off the time and finished 48th or something like that. Remember, our goal for 2011 is to raise good money for CPL and to finish at least 48th!

Looks like we lost two cars to mechanical failure today. Sorry for those guys. Safe Home Jim, lets get em next year! Thanks to the Hair family for adding Dazzle, Wiccan, Holly, and Jester to the car. Watch for a picture of the drivers side fender to see them when I post new pictures.

And They Are Off!

Well, here we go! Most of our updates will be on Facebook. Many will come by email if you sign up below. Make sure you add brian@onelapfordogs.com to your safe senders list to avoid spam. We'll also be updating this website as we can.

Let me start by saying that this car was not made for four people and all of our gear, but with high spirits and a lot of patience, Jen is doing well having all three of us kids in the car. We have covered nearly 700 miles so far and Harry has been up to his usual massive food consumption. I am thinking he missed his true calling as a competitive eater.

Cassidy is by far the youngest competitor in the field. I think the next closest person is 21 years old.

We'll have more stories shortly, but now I need to go get my driver's suit on and head out to this morning's competition, Wet Skid Pad. From here, we head to Grissom Air Force Base to compete in the Autocross event. Enjoy the pictures!

What's this all about?

In 2009 Brian Gomez, Harry Panson, and their families created One Lap For Dogs to raise awareness for local charities that are involved in enriching people's lives with pets and service dogs. In 2010 we raised over $5,000 for the Chester Country SPCA as we covered the race car with vinyl dog bones and competed in the Tire Rack One Lap of America.

This year we will again compete in the One Lap, but with a new race car and new charity partner! We look forward to raising awareness and funds for Canine Partners For Life as we cover the new RX-8 with dog bones!
