Home Page - Day 0 - Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3 - Day 4 - Day 5 - Day 6 - Day 7 - Day 8 - Day 9

It Is Over! We didn't win!!!!!!!!!!!! However we were the fastest car that was covered with dog bones. One lap For Dogs was a success and we had a blast. We met super people.

We had a great day and more pictures of it will follow...but for now, Just sit back and enjoy our day with Mr Happy! Or click here to see in car video of Brian's Spin! Weeeeee

Mid-Ohio, May 5th 4:00PM Sitting at a repair joint! We rotated the tires at lunch today....CRAP, we need brakes!

Thanks to Dave and Amanda and their amazing Mom for the cookies. Ground up oatmeal was her secret and it was awesome! Dave showed me the line during the track walk this morning and it really helped. So the brakes...I guess replacing them before the trip might have been smart, but we at least should have packed an extra set. Live and learn. I will let the One Lap For Dogs VP of De-acceleration know that we should be more prepared next time!

If you want the full email updates from our trip, please just send an email to brian.gomez@onelapfordogs.com

May 4th 9:45PM On the way to Mid Ohio, fellow competitor may have blown engine Looks like a fellow Corvette was driving along on the highway and ran into some engine trouble...more info to come. Team One Lap for Dogs was able to meet up with Harry's brother George and best friend Dave at an exit in Ohio. We had a great few minutes catching up! Thanks guys for meeting us! In other news, Mr. Happy is riding with Dave and Amanda - his rightful owners. Check out their awesome blog

Gateway, May 4th 10:00AM #6 Subaru STI breaks a left rear drive or suspension part and takes it into the weeds Pictures later I am sure, everyone is alright, but the car looks pretty bad. The OLFD Corvette is getting on the track in a few minutes!

May 3, 2010 10:20 PM: From Mid-America to Hallett to Tulsa Drag Strip We are still talking to each other but barely! We had a really tough day. Mid-America was great, fantastic and fun track. After running all day, Harry and I decided to visit my favorite barbeque joint, Arthur Bryant's. Harry was all grins as we pulled up and went inside. The food speaks for itself. If you are ever in Kansas City, do yourself a favor, stop by!

So that night we got to our hotel a little late and worked way to hard on sending emails and getting other things done including downloading the Cannonball Run theme song to the IPod. So we got to sleep a little after 1:00. I set my alarm...for 5:55.....PM, yes, I screwed up, PM. When I woke up at 7:30 I knew what happen. I yelled across the room to Harry and he jumped out of bed like a shot. We rushed to the track but we missed the walk around.. Major screwup as this track at Hallett is a real tough one. I got on the track a few sessions later and promptly spun out on a turn I should have been better prepared for. New Rule...Harry checks the alarm clock before I go to bed.

So yeah, I spun the corvette and was sitting sideways in the middle of the track. I kept it running, hit reverse, then planted the gas trying to get out of the Porsche Boxter's way that was coming into the corner. But my screw up messed up his lap...I felt horrible. I guess everyone lived and no cars were injured in the making of this blunder.

We left Hallet sitting in 47th place and I turned the car over to Harry for the drag strip. Our bad day continued and we are now sitting in 54th. We'll try to do better tomorrow.

Final quick note for our friends Dave and Amanda. Mr Happy is enjoying the sight seeing with us!

May 2, 2010 PM: hmmm what to write...We are having a blast! Thanks to everyone for their continued support!

May 2, 2010: Mid-America! Sitting at the lunch stand watching Harry take on board another sandwich. I guess the Peeps, Sausage Biscuit, Sausage Burrito, Granola Bar and Frapachino only lasted until Noon! He has a has a handful of sandwich. We are headed to Bryant's Barbeque for dinner this evening. Harry is in for a caloric treat!

Hey, you guys want to see another great story? Check out: http://nigelracingonelap.blogspot.com/ Laura and her Dad are great fun to spend time with!

May 1, 2010 11:30: Road America! Brian ran the long course at Road America but the big news comes from Harry's mastery of the skid pad. Looks like all of those calories are helping make him faster! We are currently 35th. Stay tuned for updates as it seems the Cadillac that was on track after us has flipped on track. So far the word is the driver is out and fine. Harry doing a masterful job getting us to our next track. Mid-America!

April 30, 2010 11:45pm - It's OFF, we are getting repaired! Wait, no, we are running again!!! Thanks Gates Chevy!

April 29, 2010 11:45pm - It's On!

Harry and I made it to South Bend and met the other Cannonballers in the bar tonight. It was like walking into a family reunion where it wasn't your family, but you knew you were welcome just the same. We got some great tips from some good people.

Our trip out was a nice drive, but at about 75 MPH the car started shaking. We decided to stop at an NTB in Kent Ohio to have the wheels reballanced. That corrected the problem and no shaking now up to at least 90 MPH. The bad news....we have to be at a Chevy dealer at 7:30am tomorrow to have the left rear wheel bearing replaced as it is showing a little wiggle. We don't want to lose a wheel on this trip, so another $400.00 and we'll be on our way.

If you are signed up for our newsletter, you should have something in your inbox by tomorrow morning. If you are not signed up, please email brian.gomez@onelapfordogs.com

About our "BIG" Race: Tire Rack One Lap of America...8 days, 8 racetracks, 4000+miles!
Often called the 'modern day Cannonball', One Lap of America is a legal way for us to 'race' around the country. We will start out at the Tire Rack facility in South Bend Indiana and head out to racetracks around the country - a different track every day. The course will take us to racetracks in Wisconsin, Iowa, Oklahoma, Illinois, Ohio, and New Jersey, only stopping for the occasional gas station break!

Did we mention we were doing this in a Corvette? Not a lot of room in there folks. Only the necessities will be allowed to accompany us (computer, small bag of clothes, some candy bars, and caffeine) By the end of this trip, we will either be the best of friends or... well, uuuuh...

The schedule is being finalized now, so watch for updates and when we will be at a track near you. All of the details can be found at www.OneLapofAmerica.com
